Also known as abdominal endoscopy, laparoscopy involves inserting a camera into the abdominal cavity, usually through an incision in the navel measuring 0.5 to 1 cm.
The gas injected into the abdominal cavity expands the abdominal wall and creates space for visualizing the intra-abdominal organs, particularly the internal reproductive organs in gynecology (uterus, ovaries, and fallopian tubes). Other instruments, inserted through additional small incisions, allow for surgical intervention.
