Endoscopy

A general term referring to the examination of an organ or cavity within the body that is not directly visible to the naked eye. This is done using an endoscope, i.e., an optical device that can be inserted into the body to visualize an organ or cavity. Examples: colonoscopy (examination of the colon), cystoscopy (examination of the bladder).
